FADE IN: THE MARINA -- "WATERFRONT GRILL"
Cross is walking out of the restaurant with another man and woman.
CROSS: Okay, you were right, this is better steak than the Biergarten in Munich.
MAN: He hates it when I'm right.
CROSS: Luckily that doesn't happen very often. (He turns to the woman) It was a pleasure meeting you.
WOMAN: Oh, I had a wonderful time.
MAN: Let's do it again soon.
WOMAN: Are you gonna tell him?
MAN: Anya, we discussed--
CROSS: Tell me what?
MAN: Nothing. She just thinks I should get out of field work, that's all. I promise I'm going to talk to him about it, just not now, okay?
ANYA: (running a hand through her long hair) Ooh... I forgot my glasses, I think I left them inside, I'll be right back.
MAN: I'll get the car.
ANYA: Okay. (She returns to the restaurant as they continue to the parking lot)
CROSS: She's really something.
MAN: Yeah, I think after all these years she might be the one.
CROSS: You're a lucky man.
MAN: I'm telling you Quentin, don't wait too long. When you retire that pension check's not gonna keep you warm at night.
CROSS: Well then I'd better keep on working forever. (Cross shakes his hand as they reach their cars) Take care Dallas.
DALLAS: (Heads to his own car) You too buddy.
Cross looks over as Dallas gets into his car, starts it and it explodes.
CROSS: NOOOOOOOOOO!
He runs over to the car as a crowd gathers. The flames are too hot and he has no choice but to stay back also.
ANYA: (running) DALLAS! NOOOOOOOOOO!
Cross grabs her to keep her from running to the car as it explodes again.
END OF TEASER
*With this episode Cameron is now listed with the header:
"And Cameron Daddo as Mr. Cross"
FADE IN: CEMETARY-- DALLAS FUNERAL
CROSS: (walking with Anya) I know how difficult this must be.
ANYA: Especially since it didn't have to happen. I begged Dallas to tell you about the death threat.
CROSS: He always did think he was invincible. (They reach the limousine.) I promise you, I'll find the man who did this.
ANYA: (nods and hugs him) Thank you Quentin and... please be careful. Oh, would you keep me up to date on what you find? It would mean so much.
CROSS: Of course.
ANYA: Thank you.
She leaves in the limo as he watches, he is joined by the She Spies.
CASSIE: Is she alright?
CROSS: Under the circumstances.
They begin to walk.
SHANE: We got the dosier on Nicholas Largent. Now what makes you so sure he was the one that had Dallas killed?
CROSS: He's taking revenge against the men who put him in prison. Two years ago he stole a military prototype of a dangerous bio-toxin. Dallas and I were members of an inter-agency team who captured him.
D.D.: But you never recovered the toxin.
CROSS: No. That's why he only got eighteen months.
CASSIE: The dosier said Largent was released last week, wasn't he under surveillance?!?
CROSS: The F.B.I had him... and lost him.
SHANE: He must be good.
CROSS: What he is, is a killer. After Dallas was murdered I called the other agents, the other members of the mission to warn them, they both died in accidents this week.
CASSIE: (realizing) So you're the only one left!
FADE TO: COMCENT
CASSIE: When do we start?
CROSS: Now. Largent's been out of circulation for a year and a half so he'll be needing money.
D.D.: You think he'll put the bio-toxin back up for sale?
CROSS: (leading them to the lower level) I'm counting on it so we have to move fast, considering Largent's probably already looking for me... I'm going in the field with you.
He stops at the big screen letting the women absorb his decision to join them.
CASSIE: Look, we know you have more experience than all of us put together but out there you're a walking target!
SHANE: Yeah, don't you think it would be smarter for you to stay here where it's safe?
D.D.: Yeah, you don't want to go out there... L.A.'s a mess, there's traffic--
CASSIE: Five dollar lattes.
SHANE: Former child stars parking your car.
CROSS: (Amused and touched) I appreciate your concern ladies, uh, but I assure you I will be taking every precaution. (he clicks on the screen and a picture appears) This is Nicholas Largent. The bio-toxin he stole is capable of producing catastrophic cellular fission.
SHANE: Not just plain old cellular fission... catastrophic.
D.D.: It cooks you alive from inside out.
CASSIE: Did you ever notice these guys never develop anything good for mankind?
CROSS: The list of people wealthy enough to pay what Largent's asking won't be long. (He clicks to a photo of a woman) Locally there's a lady named Renee Palmer, she runs an investment consulting business.
CASSIE: Gotta be a cover.
CROSS: Her real business is negotiating black market arms deals.
D.D. and Shane give Cassie a puzzled look.
D.D.: How did you know that?
CASSIE: Investing is what people say they're doing when they're really not doing anything at all.
CROSS: If the toxin is for sale, Renee Palmer likely knows when... and where. (Cross leads them to his office) Cassie and I will team up to handle Palmer.
SHANE: (Amused) This has Batman and Robin written all over it.
D.D.: After you catch Largent maybe you can go after the Riddler.
Cross gives her a look.
SHANE: So what do we do while you guys are shaking down Palmer?
CROSS: Largent has a fondness for... high-end call girls.
CASSIE: I think I know where this is going.
D.D. and Shane share a tedious look.
CROSS: He works through a Madam named Erin Weiss.
FADE TO: PENTHOUSE
CROSS V.O. (voice over): She hosts a weekend client party at her private penthouse suite. Though it's unlikely Largent will be there, intel says our Madam keeps clients lists on a pda. It should identify the women Largent prefers. It's likely one of them could lead us to him.
Shane and D.D. are dressed as hookers and are ushered into the penthouse.
SHANE: Say good-bye to eye contact.
D.D.: These women are all in such a good mood.
SHANE: For a thousand dollars an hour, I could fake all kind of moods.
D.D.: But how'd they wind up here? Didn't they have a dream?
SHANE: Yeah, to get paid a thousand dollars an hour.
D.D.: I still believe if you set a goal for yourself and you work really hard you can be whatever you want to be.
SHANE: Especially if you have a rack you can park a car on.
A woman in leather enters the room.
D.D.: Erin Weiss.
SHANE: Erin Weiss's office.
D.D.: First things first.
They head over to where Erin Weiss came from and point to a man.
SHANE: He looks harmless.
D.D.: That's what we need.
They approach him.
SHANE: Hi... (she puts a bandaged finger to his lips) uh, uh, all you gotta do is listen. Two for one special, two of us, one of you, interested? (The man starts to nod and collapses into the chair) Gotta love this knockout finger thing Duncan made.
SECURITY MAN: Is there a problem?
D.D.: Someone's had a little too much of something.
Shane slips the "spiked" bandage into her purse and they get the guy into the office.
D.D.: It's pretty amazing when you think that prostitution is the world's oldest profession. (They drop the man on the couch) Sex has been selling for over two thousand years.
SHANE: Because men have never evolved. (They remove detection devices from their purses and begin scanning) Now, if I were Erin Weiss's pda where would I be hiding?
D.D.: (At the bookcase) Found something. (She removes a large tome and opens it, finding the pda) Look at this, a list of call girls inside Hamlet.
SHANE: To do or not to do, that is the question.
FADE TO: RENEE PALMER INVESTMENTS
Cross and Cassie exit the building and go to her car.
CASSIE: You see Palmer's face? She knows where Largent is, she's lying.
CROSS: What was your first clue?
CASSIE: Eye twitch.
CROSS: What about the pencil tapping?
They get into her car.
CASSIE: Not as consistant as the eye twitch. She twitched twice when she was lying, once when she wasn't.
CROSS: You're very good at reading people.
CASSIE: Some people... others are a lot more challenging. (She gives him a meaningful look) Look what we have here.
Renee Palmer exits her office talking on her cell phone and gets into her car.
CROSS: Let's see where she takes us.
They follow her.
FADE TO: ERIN WEISS'S PENTHOUSE
SHANE V.O.: How're we doing?
D.D. V.O.: Almost... transfer done.
The call girl information is now on D.D.'s pda and she replaces the original where she found it.
SHANE: You know, I bet we could sell that list for more than a week's pay.
D.D.: Yeah, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
SHANE: With that kind of money you could live with anyone you wanted to! Whoa, whoa I hear something! (She listens at the door as D.D. puts her pda in her purse) Somebody's coming! (Shane turns out the lights and they move over to the drugged man and start hitting him softly with his belt and a whip as the door opens) You've been very naughty!
D.D.: (Amused) Naughty, naughty!
ERIN: What are you doing in here?!?
D.D.: Spanking people for money.
ERIN: Who are you?!?
D.D.: We're friends of Tiffany's.
ERIN: Well Tiffany doesn't write the guest list, this is a private party, get out!
The spies shrug and head for the door.
SHANE: (As she leaves) Don't bother spanking him, he doesn't tip well.
ERIN: You too, honey. Out. (The man lays there) Hey! Hey, I'm talking to you! (Erin shakes him and realizes he's drugged so she hurries out) Damn it!
SHANE: (Hurrying toward the main door) Wait a second, we don't know any Tiffany!
D.D.: Come on, look around, this is Tiffany central!
They reach the door as Erin appears and motions to the security guard who blocks their escape.
SHANE: Listen step aside and nobody gets hurt.
SECURITY GUARD: You're not going anywhere ladies.
SHANE: Damn,I thought I nailed that delivery.
D.D.: I'd move. (Shane slips her purse off her shoulder then slugs the guy dropping him to the floor) It's hard to believe some people pay for that kind of pain.
The spies walk out.
ERIN: (snidely to security guard) Nice job!
FADE OUT
END OF ACT ONE
FADE IN: MARINA
Cassie and Cross have followed Renee Palmer there but she has made them.
RENE: (To security man at the gate as she runs through it) Stop them!
The man takes Cross as the bigger threat and Cassie runs past following Palmer while Cross takes on the man.
CASSIE: (Grabbing Palmer's purse as she runs up a gang plank) I get the feeling you're trying to avoid us.
Cross finishes off the man and hurries down as Cassie pulls the purse away and opens it.
CROSS: You got it?
CASSIE: Yeah.
CROSS: On your way to see Nicholas Largent?
RENEE: I pay a lawyer to do my talking for me.
CROSS: (Pulling out handcuffs) Have it your way.
RENEE: You can't be serious!
CASSIE: (As he cuffs Renee) Hotel itinerary, Claremore in Santa Barbara, and guess who's footing the bill.
CROSS: (Pulling a jewelry box from the purse) NL, Nicholas Largent.
RENEE: Go to hell!
CASSIE: We can take that as a yes.
CROSS: (Opening the box) A memory stick.
CASSIE: Since when did that become a girl's best friend.
FADE TO: COMCENT
DUNCAN O.C.: Can you hear me now? Good. (He flips open his belt buckle open and a number pad is inside. D.D. is in the background) Can you hear me now? Good. Can you hear me now? (There's static. Shane approaches giving him an odd look.) Must be the proximity of the zipper... (He notices Shane.) Uh... Hold on... I gotta go. (Closes the buckle) What do you think?
SHANE: (not going to touch it) About?
DUNCAN: My belt buckle. You see it's actually a cell phone, I attached a micro-keypad and the clasp is really the speaker. (Duncan looks down at it as D.D. approaches) I love that it's so small.
D.D. gives him the Shane a look.
SHANE: Don't ask. What's up?
D.D.: (Nodding) I decoded Erin Weiss's pda, look how big her client list is.
She shows them several pages.
SHANE: Wow! Tax cuts really do help stimulate the economy.
D.D.: Nicholas Largent had a favorite escort named Athena.
SHANE: 517 West Coliente. It's a nice neighborhood, Athena must be good.
DUNCAN: Good? Try awesome. (They look at him.) Her name's got four stars next to it. (He replies and walks away to their amusement)
FADE TO: ATHENA'S APARTMENT
She is in bed with Largent.
ATHENA: Oh Nicholas, very good today.
LARGENT: Someone had 18 months in prison to make up for. (He hands her a gift bag.)
ATHENA: Ooh, for me?
LARGENT: (Climbing out of bed) Go ahead, open it. I thought of you the moment I saw it. I had to get it for you.
ATHENA: Nicholas, perfume. You didn't have to do this.
LARGENT: (Moving across the room) Go ahead, try it.
Athena removes the perfume, unaware Largent has pointed a web camera at her. She sprays the perfume on her neck and smiles then reaches for her throat as if unable to breath.
ATHENA: Oh my God!
She falls back dead as Largent smiles, satisfied.
FADE TO: THE MARINA
Renee Palmer is escorted away by the Feds.
CROSS: (On the phone) She was carrying an itinerary from the Claremore Inn.
ANYA: So you think this is where this Nicholas Largent is staying?
CROSS: According to the itinerary he's supposed to be arriving there later today.
ANYA: Will you be able to put him away for good this time?
CROSS: (Hurt by the question) I made you a promise Anya, I plan on keeping it.
ANYA: Thank you Quentin.
FADE TO: ATHENA'S APARTMENT
Shane and D.D. break in.
SHANE: Looks like Largent's favorite escort is out earning another star. (She sniffs and makes a face) What's that smell?
D.D.: (sniffing too) Scented candles.
SHANE: No, the other one.
They move further inside.
D.D.: Cologne of a thousand men?
SHANE: (Sniffing again) No, that burnt smell.
D.D. espies the web camera and goes to it then looks up and gasps seeing a burnt arm.
D.D.: Oh my God! (Shane moves toward it and D.D. grabs her arm) Careful, we're live.
SHANE: What the hell is going on?!?
D.D.: (Closing camera lens.) The camera's aimed at the body.
SHANE: (Sickened) Well, I'm no chemist but it looks like she was killed with some sort of toxin.
D.D.: But why the pay-per-view? That's sick.
FADE IN: COMCENT
Cassie and Cross arrive. Cassie gets out first then comes around to his side as he gets out, he rubs his left knee then straightens. Cassie looks at his knee puzzled then meets his eyes.
CROSS: You've got that look on your face like you're dying to ask me something.
CASSIE: You've got that look like you don't want to answer.
CROSS: You're getting better at reading me.
A red dot appears on his forehead and Cassie shoves him back dragging him to the front of her car and safety.
CASSIE: GET DOWN!
CROSS: You see him?
They scan the area and she espies a silver car.
CASSIE: Treeline, by the fence!
Cross shoots at the car as it speeds away.
FADE OUT
END OF ACT TWO
FADE IN: COMCENT
CASSIE: (Reading a report, looks over as the elevator opens.) Finish sweeping the scene?
SHANE: (Holding up a baggie) Yep. Found casings from an M-855.
D.D.: Laser sight rifle. Military ordinance. Looks like our sniper got himself hooked up with some pretty nasty toys.
SHANE: Yeah, Largent spares no expense when it comes to murder.
D.D.: What about those specks on the pavement you found?
CASSIE: Lab says it's blood, looks like Cross may have grazed the shooter.
SHANE: Well if the sniper has any military training then his DNA's on file with the D.O.D.
D.D.: We need someone to cross-check the sample, see if we can get an I.D.
They hear grunting and turn... to see Duncan taking a hatchet to a sweatshirt clad dummy torso. They head over to him when he stops but then he starts on the dummy again.
SHANE: Maybe now's not a good time.
D.D.: Is he... testing something?
CASSIE: Either that or he's got some serious anger management issues.
SHANE: I can have analysis run the sample.
The trio turn and walk away as Duncan continues to assault the dummy.
CROSS: (On the phone in his office.) Okay, thank you. (He hangs up as the women enter.) Intel confirmed your hunch D.D., Largent staged his web demonstration to interest potential buyers.
CASSIE: Gives a whole new meaning to "must see t.v.".
D.D.: The files I found on the dead woman's computer show twelve people logged onto the server at the time of her murder.
SHANE: So, Renee Palmer was headed to Santa Barbara to do what?
CASSIE: Well, I don't think she was going there to party with the twelve other sadists who tuned into the snuff channel.
D.D.: You think an auction?
SHANE: How do we get on the guest list?
CROSS: The memory stick Renee Palmer was carrying was her official invitation.
He opens the jewel box, removes the memory stick and inserts it into his computer, loads it then turns the screen toward them to show Renee Palmer's photo on an official verification.
SHANE: That's a cool way to verify a guests identity.
D.D.: Poor Renee, she's missing one heck of a party.
CROSS: (Looks at Cassie) Oh, I think she still plans to attend.
The photo on the memory stick changes to Cassie.
FADE TO: CLAREMORE INN
The party is in full swing.
LARGENT: If you could wait just one moment please. It appears everything checks out Herr Schlausser.
SCHLAUSSER: Thank you very much.
LARGENT: (To next buyer) Welcome.
CAssie enters the room and walks over to him.
CASSIE: You must be Nicholas Largent, I'm Renee Palmer.
LARGENT: Your invitation please. (Cassie removes the jewelry box from her purse and the memory stick is put into the computer.) And your purse.
CASSIE: (Handing it over) Is there anywhere else you'd like to search?
LARGENT: (Looks her over) Not at the moment. (The screen shows her official invitation.) You're prettier than your picture, Miss Palmer, welcome.
CASSIE: Thank you. (She retrieves her purse and deftly runs a hand over her necklace.)
FADE TO: ANOTHER ROOM IN THE HOTEL
A computer is displaying live party feed.
DUNCAN: Signal's clean.
CROSS: D.D., what about the hotel surveillance system?
D.D. V.O.: Give me one more second.
Two monitors now display the hotel exterior.
DUNCAN: We're in, nice work D.D.
D.D. V.O.: You're welcome.
CROSS: Do you know the interface Cassie needs to get inside Largent's computer?
DUNCAN: We're about to find out.
FADE TO: THE PARTY
LARGENT: (Showing Cassie to the room where she'll place her bid.) The process is simple. You enter your bid on a secured site and after everyone's taken their turn I'll announce the winner.
Cassie touches the necklace giving Duncan and Cross a close-up of the computer screen.
CASSIE: Couldn't you and I negotiate... just the two of us? You see, there's more to my bid than what's in my bank account.
LARGENT: I'm afraid it's dollars and cents that win this game.
CASSIE: Too bad.
They exit the room.
FADE TO: THE SECOND HOTEL ROOM
DUNCAN: It's gonna need the Astair Interface.
CROSS: D.D., you got that?
FADE TO: D.D. WAITRESSING THE PARTY
D.D.: Got it.
CASSIE: Nicholas, I'd like to see what I'm buying... up close and personal.
LARGENT: I'm afraid that's not possible.
CASSIE: Anything's possible.
LARGENT: (Coldly) If anyone tries to get up close and personal without my permission... they'll find it a fatal mistake.
D.D.: (Coming over) Champagne?
LARGENT: No thank you.
SHANE: (Joining them as hotel management) Mr. Largent only drinks vodka martinis, straight up with a twist, correct?
LARGENT: Yes, but not until business is concluded.
D.D.: How 'bout you miss?
CASSIE: Yes, thank you.
D.D. has the interface under the tray and Cassie picks up her drink with one hand, while palming it with the other.
LARGENT: Excuse me. (He steps forward.) Ladies and gentlemen... the bidding is now open. May I wish you all the best of luck.
FADE TO: THE SECOND HOTEL ROOM
Cross and Duncan watch as Largent faces Cassie and adjusts his tie.
LARGENT: Excuse me.
CROSS: Duncan run that back. Freeze on his watch. Enlarge it. The glass is hinged... that looks like a trigger pin in the center of the face.
FADE TO: THE PARTY
LARGENT: Ah, bidder number one.
He escorts an unidentified man to the bidding room.
CASSIE: (To Shane and D.D.) Largent said that if anyone tried to steal the toxin it would be a fatal mistake.
SHANE: He probably rigged the container holding the toxin, the watch is the trigger, someone tries to steal it... instant barbecue.
FADE TO: THE SECOND HOTEL ROOM
Cross is watching and listening and glances at the external security screen and sees Anya.
CROSS: We've got a situation.
D.D.: I never like that word.
CROSS: I may be wrong but I think Anya Dawsie just arrived.
CASSIE: What is she doing here?
CROSS: This is my fault, I told her about Largent, she's probably here to confront him.
D.D.: Grief does strange things to people.
SHANE: Where is she?
CROSS: Headed toward the lobby, she's wearing sunglasses. She could blow this entire mission. Ladies, you have got to stop her.
FADE OUT
END OF ACT THREE
FADE IN: CLAREMORE INN
The trio intercepts Anya at the entrance.
CASSIE: Miss Dawsie! Mr. Cross would like to speak with you.
ANYA: I have nothing to say to him! Excuse me.
SHANE: Mrs. Thompson you have to come with us...
Shane grabs her arm.
ANYA: Let go of me!
SHANE: I told you if I caught you stealing from the maids cart you'd have to come with me to security, let's go.
Shane hustles Anya away.
D.D.: (To watching valet) It's her third strike.
She and Cassie follow the women to Cross and Duncan.
CROSS: Anya, I know you're upset but I cannot allow you to jeopardize this mission.
ANYA: Oh,that's ironic coming from you!
CROSS: What did you think you were going to do? I mean, I told you I would take care of this.
ANYA: Like you took care of your last mission?!? Dallas told me what happened! If he hadn't screwed up Dallas would still be alive! (Cross looks away.) Don't they know?
CROSS: Duncan, get my car, take Anya to the airport.
ANYA: Nobody's taking me anywhere!(She tries to get away but Cross restrains her) Let me go!
CROSS: (Handcuffing her) I'm sorry to do this to you. I'll have some agents meet you at the airport.
Duncan leads her to the door.
ANYA: (Tto the spies) If I were you I'd watch my back!
Duncan takes her out leaving Cross to face the curious spies.
CASSIE: There some history to this mission we don't know about?
CROSS: (Smiling to cover) Some history isn't worth knowing.
CASSIE: I don't know, I think if we're putting our lives on the line... you owe us an explanation.
CROSS: (Meeting Cassie's eyes and seeing the question of trust reflected back) I let my feelings for a woman on my team jeopardize the first mission to get Largent. (He turns away remembering.) Her name was Nora Navarro, she was an F.B.I. agent. We prepared for that mission for months... (Turns back to them.) lots of long nights and eventually I crossed the line. What I didn't realize was that Nora was a double agent, she was working with someone outside to steal the toxin and sell it on the blackmarket.
SHANE: (Sympathetically) How did you find out?
CROSS: As we were closing in on Largent... she asked me to join them. I declined. She pulled a gun, we struggled, bullet caught me in the knee. The shot alerted the other agents, they killed her. We never recovered the toxin, without it there wasn't much of a case against Largent. If I hadn't let my emotions get in the way... Largent... Well, he'd still be in jail... and the rest of my team, they'd be alive.
CASSIE: We have a job to finish.
The women leave him alone.
SHANE: Wow, that was a little weird.
CASSIE: So Mister Professional does have a few flaws.
D.D.: I'm glad. I was starting to think he wasn't human.
SHANE: Yeah, no wonder that guy's all work and no play.
D.D.: He must be really lonely.
CROSS V.O.: Ladies, I can hear you...and no, I am not.
The women cringe realizing they're still hot miced.
D.D.: Oops!
CASSIE: Just kidding.
FADE TO: CROSS'S CAR, DUNCAN TAKING ANYA TO THE AIRPORT
Duncan's phone rings.
DUNCAN: Duncan Balew.
MAN V.O.: Hey Dunc, it's Frank in analysis, we I.D.'d the sniper.
DUNCAN: Cool, you got a name for me?
FRANK V.O.: Justine Navarro. She's an ex-Delta Force, goes by an alias, Anya Dawsie.
Duncan starts to glance into the rearview mirror when Anya, having slipped the cuffs around the front of her body wraps them around his throat.
FRANK V.O: You get that?
ANYA: Pull over!
FRANK V.O.: Dunc, are you there?
ANYA: Now!
FRANK V.O.: Duncan?
FADE TO: CLAREMORE INN
A woman exits the bidding room.
LARGENT: Thank you for your bid. Miss Palmer. Miss Palmer?
Cassie reappears.
CASSIE: Hi.
LARGENT: You're the last bidder.
CASSIE: Oh, I hope that's a good omen.
LARGENT: And the last shall be first?
CASSIE: (Softly as she walks into the room) An arms dealer who quotes the Bible.
FADE TO: THE SECOND HOTEL ROOM
Cross watches the party.
CASSIE V.O.: There's a whole new class of bad guys out there.
CROSS: Shane, D.D., show time.
FADE TO: THE PARTY
Cassie sits at the computer glancing at the security man near-by.
CASSIE: Go.
D.D. stops waitressing and takes a gulp of champange as Shane stalks up.
SHANE: What do you think you're doing?!?
D.D.: I think it's called drinking.
SHANE: You're not supposed to drink when you're pregnant!
D.D.: I can do whatever I want!
Their fighting gets everyone's attention.
SHANE: Not when you're carrying my baby!
FADE TO: CASSIE IN BIDDING OFFICE
D.D. V.O.: You know I don't appreciate you watching every little thing I do!
The security man leaves the room to watch the show.
SHANE V.O.: Well it seems somebody has too!
Cassie removes the interface.
D.D. V.O.: What's that supposed to mean?!?
SHANE V.O.: It means you're behaving like an irresponsible child!
D.D. V.O.: If I'm the irresponsible child, you're the domineering jerk!
CASSIE: There's no USB port.
CROSS: Then use the PS-2 port, just pull off the adaptor.
FADE TO: THE PARTY
D.D.: Just because I agreed to be your surrogate doesn't mean you can boss me around.
CASSIE V.O.: Just a little bit longer.
SHANE: Well I'm sorry I picked you because you are an idiot!
D.D.: Well if you think I'm an idiot, you're a bigger idiot for picking me! (She gasps as Shane raises her hand and she grabs it.) Are you really going to hit the mother of your child?
SHANE: Only in the face!
CASSIE: Bid's in.
D.D.: (Lowers voice) Okay, okay, not the face.
SHANE: Well then promise me...
The bid screen appears.
SHANE V.O.: ...promise me you'll be more responsible.
Cassie's bid appears at the top of the list being higher than the others.
SHANE V.O.: Well, will you?
CROSS: Ladies, we're done.
D.D.: Okay, I promise I'll stop drinking.
SHANE: That's all I ever asked. I love you.
D.D.: I love you too.
They hug as Cassie exits the bidding room.
FADE TO: ANYA IN CROSS'S CAR AT THE WHEEL
DUNCAN: (Muffled) Please! There's no air in here, I can't breath!
ANYA: Quiet back there!
She uses the phone.
FADE TO: THE PARTY
A phone rings and the computer security man goes to answer it.
LARGENT: Thank you. So are we ready ladies and gentlemen? Let me see... (He check the bids and Renee Palmer heads the list at $12,750,000.) I'm pleased to announce that the most generous offer was made by... Renee Palmer. Congratulations. (The security man hands Largent the phone.) Yes?
ANYA: You've been made. The Feds are onto you, you gotta get out of there.
LARGENT: And why should I believe you?
ANYA: The blonde in the black dress, she's working for Quentin Cross. Remember him?
LARGENT: I see. Thank you, I'll take care of it. (He hangs up and hands the phone to the security man.)
CASSIE: Is everything alright?
LARGENT: Of course, I... just need a moment.
The spies watch him head for the door.
LARGENT: Make sure no one leaves this area.
The security guards take up position by the door as Largent leaves.
He walks to the courtyard and retrieves the cannister behind some statues.
FADE OUT
END OF ACT FOUR
FADE IN: CLAREMORE INN
Cross espies Largent on the security camera.
CROSS: I see Largent, I'm going after him.
Cross heads out as the women approach the guards at the party.
CASSIE: Gentlemen, I assume you'll be wanting to do this the hard way?
THUG 1: Bring it on.
SHANE: You only have to ask us once.
The spies turn then "bring it on" leaving the men on the floor.
SHANE: Well, we brought it.
CASSIE: And they got it.
FADE TO: EXTERIOR OF THE HOTEL
Largent reaches a tall trellis and climbs over easily. The spies are looking for him when Cassie's phone rings.
CASSIE: Yeah?
DUNCAN: Cassie, Duncan. Anya Dawsie's the sniper.
CASSIE: What?!?
DUNCAN: Her real name is Justine Navarro.
SHANE: Navarro? As in Nora Navarro?!?
D.D.: The woman Cross fell for.
CASSIE: So... they're sisters? Duncan, where are you?
DUNCAN: Uh... in the trunk of the car. We turned around, I think we're back at the Claremore.
CASSIE: All right, let's go guys.
The spies take off at a run.
Cross, limping slightly as he runs after Largent. He eyes the trellis hesitantly then climbs to the top and jumps to the other side where he grunts as he hits the ground and rolls, grabbing his knee.
CROSS: Son of a...
LARGENT: (Holding a gun on him) Quentin Cross.
Cross rolls to his good knee to face the killer.
LARGENT: This won't make up for a year and a half of my life... but it's a start.
A weapon discharges and Largent falls to the ground. Anya walks up.
CROSS: (Shocked) Anya?
She picks up the cannister and Largent's gun, aiming the weapon at Cross.
ANYA: And then there were none.
She shoots him point blank in the chest and he falls back as she runs off. The spies reach him seconds later. Cassie checks Largent while Shane and D.D. run to Cross.
D.D.: I got a pulse.
CASSIE: He's still alive?
CROSS: (Raising his head) More or less.
They help him to a sitting position.
SHANE: We heard a shot.
CROSS: (Lifting his shirt) Prosthetic kevlar flesh. (He peels the real looking skin up to reveal his own chest.) Duncan designed it for me.
Flashback to Duncan taking the hatchet to the dummy.
D.D.: (Awed) Cool!
CROSS: (Relieved) Yeah.
SHANE: Where's the toxin?
CROSS: Anya's got it.
CASSIE: (To Shane) Stay with him.
Cassie and D.D. take off after Anya.
SHANE: Duncan called... Anya's real name is Justine Navarro.
CROSS: Nora's sister... (Realizing) and her partner. (His eyes fall on Largent.) The watch.
Nora runs into a stand of trees with Cassie and D.D. in pursuit.
CASSIE: Anya's headed toward the parking lot, let's split up and box her in.
D.D.: Got it.
They separate and Cassie exits the trees.
CASSIE: Anyone got a visual?
D.D.: No, must still be in the gardens.
CASSIE: Head toward me Deeds.
Cassie feels a gun in her back.
ANYA: One word and you're dead. We're walking right out of here, do you understand?
D.D. arrives and stops short upon seeing them.
ANYA: Stay where I can see you!
CROSS:(Arriving with Shane) Let her go... Justine.
ANYA: Get back! (Amused) Spies... always so prepared huh? Always so smart.
CROSS: Not so smart to see that you played me to find Largent for you.
ANYA: I needed a pro to track him down.
CROSS: You didn't need help to kill Dallas or the other agents on my team.
ANYA: Nora was my sister!
CROSS: She wouldn't be dead if you hadn't convinced her to steal that bio-toxin!
ANYA: Hard to say no to five million dollars.
CROSS: (raising his arm) Time's up, Anya, let her go.
ANYA: Get back!
Cassie turns to look at Cross and sees he's wearing Largent's trigger watch, she meets his eyes.
ANYA: (To Cassie) Let's go!
CROSS: (Keeping eye contact with Cassie) Do exactly what she says, Cassie.
Cassie nods, reading him this time... and dives forward, rolls to her feet and tackles D.D. as Anya aims her gun at them, unaware Cross has pressed the triger pin on the watch, releasing the toxin which Anya breaths in and fatally succumbs to.
FADE OUT
END OF ACT FIVE
FADE IN: COMCENT
Cross is back into his normal attire of a suit.
CASSIE: Reading faces always did come in handy, especially at poker, but I never thought it'd save my life.
CROSS: So fortunately I wasn't as challenging to read as you thought.
CASSIE: Trust me, you're plenty challenging.
D.D.: How'd you manage to get out of the trunk?
DUNCAN: Tow truck driver. Anya parked in the handicap spot. The guy lets me out, then bills me for it.
SHANE: I'm sure you'll get reimbursed.
CROSS: (Reading a report) We'll see.
CASSIE:(Reading him) That was a yes.
Cross looks at her as a phone goes off.
DUNCAN: (Opens belt buckle) Hello? What? Yes actually I am unhappy with my long distance service.
He walks away and none of the four spies comment.
CASSIE: So it must feel good to know you finally put an end to Largent and got that bio-toxin.
CROSS: Well it is gratifying to finally have closure on my... last mission as a field operative. Just... sorry the other men on my team aren't still here to savor it with me.
They all nod in reflection.
CROSS: On a lighter note, you will be glad to know I have officially retired from the field... once again.
CASSIE: Gonna miss it?
CROSS: Yes... and no. Mostly no.
SHANE: Says the man who got shot in the heart.
CROSS: Well let that be a lesson to you, never let affairs of the heart interfere with professional judgement.
D.D.: There's nothing wrong with having feelings.
CASSIE: She's right. You know there are some things we just can't control... not even you.
CROSS: (Smiles and walks away) Perhaps.
The trio smile slightly and Cassie appears smitten with the new boss.
